One Spurs fan will be watching the team’s Orlando bubble games with all the passion of Commerce Street honking and unrelenting Silver & Black pride thanks to his new “Puro Pinche Spurs” mural in his garage at home.

Dimas Martinez, said his neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous, commissioned him to paint the wall with the beloved battle cry of the most fervent fans. Martinez said he and his neighbor had been brainstorming ideas for the man cave garage for about a year, ultimately deciding on the chant that goes a bit further than “Go Spurs Go” on the energy scale.

“The level of support and love San Antonians have for the Spurs is amazing,” the artist said. “Even through hard times, you’ll always hear the Spurs come up in conversation.”

Martinez, who often customizes clothing and shoes, said this was his first mural. He spent about 25 hours on it and had a lot of time to think about how the love for the basketball team fuels local culture and tradition.

“I feel we all have that emotional connection to the organization,” he said. “Taking us back to going downtown, proudly being stuck in traffic, honking and yelling out ‘Puro Pinche Spurs.'”

Martinez said he’s working on adding murals dedicated to his neighbor’s other favorite teams — the Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys. Though the “Puro Pinche Spurs” mural is not open for public viewing or picture-taking, he says he’s open to creating something similar around town.
