Spurs blow 25-point lead in losing 109-107 to Rockets

HOUSTON – Russell Westbrook scored 31 points and James Harden tallied 19 of his 28 points in the second half as the Rockets overcame a 25-point deficit in first half to down the Spurs 109-107.

The Spurs missed 4 of 5 shots in the final 2:10 as they fell to 10-16 and had their streak of consecutive overtime games snapped at an NBA regular-season record four.

“Every game turns,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “In some ways, it’s like your worst nightmare, you go up 20 quickly, because you know the thing is going to turn to some degree. In a way, it was an even game. Down the stretch it was pretty much what you would expect most of the time. That’s why it’s a game.”

The Spurs led by 19 at halftime, but the Rockets won the third quarter 30-17 to pull within 89-83 at the start of the fourth.

Houston gained its first lead of the game since 2-0 on a bucket by Danuel House Jr. that made it 99-97 with 5:06 left.
