Northside ISD, Southwest ISD halt sports camps due to COVID-19 outbreak

Northside ISD, the largest school district in the San Antonio area, has suspended its summer sports camps until at least July 13 because of the area’s rising number of COVID-19 cases, athletic director Stan Laing said Monday morning.

Also, Southwest ISD and Medina Valley ISD announced via Twitter Monday morning they were halting camps for the rest of the week.

They join North East ISD and Judson ISD, who announced Sunday they were suspending camps until further notice. Camps at Harlandale ISD and Edgewood ISD are also on hold.

San Antonio ISD hasn’t officially suspended camps, but the district’s offices and schools are closed this week for the Fourth of July holiday.

On Sunday, Texas topped 5,000 new reported cases of COVID-19 for the sixth straight day.
